VCOM-Louisiana Campus

Welcoming its first class in 2020, VCOM's Louisiana campus is a partnership between VCOM and the University of Louisiana Monroe. VCOM is accredited to confer the degree of Doctor of Osteopathic medicine.

Located next to ULM's athletic grounds and along the Bayou DeSiard, the construction represents some of the most modern medical teaching facilities available. Features include a 4,100-square-foot anatomy lab, high-tech simulation center, and a 3,300-square-foot lab for osteopathic manipulative medicine training.

ULM has the state's only public school of pharmacy and schools of nursing, kinesiology, physical therapy, occupational therapy, and other health sciences, offering many opportunities for research and educational collaborations.

 

Each year, the College admits 150 medical students per class, for a total student body of 600, with the first physicians graduating in 2024.

Meeting a Powerful Need in the Delta Region

This new campus will address a physician shortage in Louisiana, which currently ranks 39th in the U.S. for per capita primary care physicians. 81% of the state has been designated a health professional shortage area by the Louisiana Department of Health, leaving lots of room for VCOM graduates to make a real difference for the health of its citizens.

Honoring the Ultimate Gift: VCOM-Louisiana Class of 2027's Donor Memorial Ceremony

VCOM-Louisiana's Class of 2027 held a Donor Memorial Ceremony to honor their anatomy donors on Sept. 30, 2024. An Anatomy Donor Symposium preceded the ceremony. Students presented posters on their first patient—their anatomy donor—summarizing the invaluable lessons each group learned while working with their donor cadaver during the past year’s anatomy curriculum. After the symposium, awards were presented for best poster and outstanding dissection before the Donor Memorial Ceremony.
